UK Trip Planner Posted
4 month after returning from the UK, I finally made some efforts to put down the trip planner for my three-week trip to England and Scotland in the "Travel" section of this blog. Hopefully it will serves as a reference when somebody is planning his or her own trip there.
In Typhoon Kalmaeg
Kalmaeg, the first typhoon of the year, brushed through Hong Kong last night and this morning. Strong wind signal No. 8 was in force for about 12 hours.Taking a walk on the Island of Lamma in a weather like this is one of the coolest things to do。 When you have to hold steady steps in the gale, hear the waves splashing on the rocks, and smell the drops of seawater in the air, all the senese are forced so widely open that you feel as if you were about to disappear into your immediate environment. That is a very good feeling.
Have You Tried to Look at the Moon Closer
Full Moon Rising Over Hills of Lamma Island
The beautiful full moon was rising over the hills of Lamma Island on the day after the mid-autumn festival. The sky was extremely clear and welcoming. Staring at the moon as it rose and became brighter and brighter, I thought of life I was leading and smiled. It is beautiful, indeed, after all.
Full Moon and Colorful Clouds on Mid-Autumn Day 彩云追月,中秋快乐!
Hong Kong Central on the Move
Serving Hong Kong since 1904, the Hong Kong tram cars are definitely my favorite mode of transportation. The rides always evoke a romantic feeling of being part of a history that is still alive, still vibrant and still moving ahead.
Long Time No See 久违了
This will always be the most beautiful pier in the world for me - the Pier at the Banyan Tree Bay. I've lingered at this same spot in early mornings, late afternoons countless times to look into the same direction and to set my eyes onto the same building, but I've never got bored of that view.
A Room with A View
Many years ago I was taking an evening walk on the Manhatten Beach in southern California. Gentle light shone through the large bay windows of those houses lining the first row by the ocean front. I thought how fortunate these people were and wondered whether they would ever stand by their windows and not see the beauty of the ocean any more. Now I've just got a home with a view first time in my life. As I watched into the Bay of Banyan Trees (Yung Shue Wan) shrounded in golden late afternoon sunlight, I felt as if I could stand to this view and be awed by the warmth and beauty of it forever.
Summer Rain Storm on Lamma Island
Heavy rain poured on Lamma Island tonight. Frequent lightnings lit up the dark sky and then came rolling thunders. When I reached home, everything on me was wet except my carema and perhaps my eyes. Cool summer shower!
Beautiful English Countryside
In Cotswolds, one can linger forever. Days become weeks and weeks become months. The lyrical beauty of English countryside is warm and soothing. For walkers, this is just paradise!
(More photos from Cotswolds are in the album Great Britain of this website.)

In Hyde Park, at Dusk
In Hyde Park, all I did was to sit down by the water, follow the graceful movements of the swans and wait for the night to fall. Blessed into my journeys are beautiful moments of solitude like this when I simply lost myself into the scented, peaceful air wrapping me and fell into a deep dream from which I never wished to wake up.
More photos from my trip to England and Scotland in April have been posted in the album Great Britain of this website.
Very Quietly I Take My Leave, As Quietly As I Came
Very quietly I take my leave
As quietly as I came here;
Quietly I wave good-bye
To the rosy clouds in the western sky.
The golden willows by the riverside
Are young brides in the setting sun;
Their reflections on the shimmering waves
Always linger in the depth of my heart.
The floating heart growing in the sludge
Sways leisurely under the water;
In the gentle waves of Cambridge
I would be a water plant!
That pool under the shade of elm trees
Holds not water but the rainbow from the sky;
Shattered to pieces among the duckweeds
Is the sediment of a rainbow-like dream?
To seek a dream? Just to pole a boat upstream
To where the green grass is more verdant;
Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight
And sing aloud in the splendour of starlight.
But I cannot sing aloud
Quietness is my farewell music;
Even summer insects keep silence for me
Silent is Cambridge tonight!
Very quietly I take my leave
As quietly as I came here;
Gently I flick my sleeves
Not even a wisp of cloud will I bring away.
Tonight, Light the Candles
These photos were taken at the candlelit vigil in Victoria Park of Hong Kong on June 4, 2014, in remembrance of what happened on the Tian'anmen Square 25 years ago.
I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
“I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.”
Photos were taken around Derwent Water in Lake District, North English in late April 2014. I was 10 days behind the splendid daffodils blooms. More photos from English and Sotland have been posted in the album Great Britian of this web site.

To Fly Like Wind and to Sing like Bagpipes
The wild beauty of Scotland carries one's heart to fly like wind and to sing like bagpipes...
These two photos were taken from a sunset stroll along the coast of Isle of Skye, off the Scottish northwestern highland in late April 2013. There was nothing to burden the mind, and I was just following the last warm ray of the day as whole-heartedly as a child.
More photos from English and Sotland have been posted in the album Great Britian of this web site.

Planning my first trip to the Great Britain
When I was teased for having never been to the Great Britain, being an English major in the university myself, I laughed and looked back at those days in the 1980s. I studied and lived in a different city from my hometown on a monthly budget of RMB50yuan (roughly US$17 then). Even travelling for leisure to a different place in China was a luxury, let alone an immersion experience in England! That was something beyond the wildest of imaginations. Things have changed tremendously over the last decades, during which time many impossibilities have turned into realities. With my first airplane experience at the age of 25, now I am even nicknamed a world traveller by many friends.
Now I'm finally about to set out for my first trip to the Great Britain to fill in that shameful blank space on my world map of arrivals. As I sketched out the planned route for a three-week stay as shown below, the stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage and profoundly intriguing history all jumped out to promise me one of the most exciting discoveries in life.
(More detailed itinerary and planning tips will be posted in the Travel section of this website shortly.)
Hong Kong Central in Heavy Rain
The first heavy rain of the year hit Hong Kong last night. I heard there were hails too. Friends called or WeChatted to ask whether my roof was strong enough to keep the rain out. My island stormy night was actually quite warm and peaceful. I vaguely recall one or two dog barking but no sound of the rain.

View from a Hong Kong Bus
When riding a bus in Hong Kong, I always try to hop onto the upper deck and sit on the first row. The elevated view point makes it a whole different experience and the journey becomes immensely fun no matter how long it takes. On a right route and with a bit of imagination, the old Hong Kong will start to unfold in front of your eyes.

First Snow
The first snow of the winter finally fell, when people were already celebrating a spring that would soon arrive. I went to my favorite spot in the center of Beijing to apprecite how beautiful this city could be when it was clean and peaceful. I have always gone on a day when I knew I wouldn't be disappointed and would always awe at the beauty of the view as if I had been there for the first time.
